about

This album is an invitation for you to explore and experiment with playing these sonic tonics to your plants. In this case, heirloom tomato plants.

DONATIONS
There is a minimum of NZD$1 for the album to cover my administration. Anything you donate over and above the $1 will go towards the Heritage Food Crops Research Trust

BACKGROUND
In late October 2023, I was speaking with Mark, Research Director of the Heritage Food Crops Research Trust here in Whanganui (NZ) about growing tomatoes. I had commented on that my tomato seedlings seemed to be stronger this year from last years plants. Whilst that can be true in most cases, he also wondered if the healing sounds I have been playing had been a factor.

Whilst I have been giving healing sound sessions to my clients onsite, I was not directly intending the sounds to go out on the property, but it did spark my curiosity. As I have noticed the plants outside my clinic window had done rather well including kumura (sweet potato) and now rhubarb. I have heard of Sonic Bloom and so Mark and I decided to explore this further.

I was invited to play and record sounds for the tomato plants at their HQ. These recordings will then continue to be played over a period of time to see what would come of it. We are now releasing these tracks to you! What can these tracks create for your tomato plants?

IINTENTION
Intention is everything when you are working with frequencies. The intention set for the recordings is for the sounds to be a contribution to the heirloom tomatoes growing cycle

RECORDINGS
I was guided to create 3 recordings whilst I was at the location:
1. Seedlings
(As this was the stage the tomato were at in the greenhouse)
2. Fruiting
3. Soil Health
There is a bit of background noise from the wind and other ambient sounds.

Some observations from other people who have explored music for the plants include:*
- Faster growth
- Earlier blooms
- Increased yields
- Improved nutrition
- Reduced pest pressure

How Does it Work?
Sonic Bloom discovered that specific sound frequencies mimic the dawn chorus of bird song. These frequencies encourage the plants to open their leaf stomata, boosting their intake of morning dew – and gentle organic foliar fertilizers.

There seems to have at least three different types of stimulation:
- Plain vibration and music with a stronger beat may mimic wind and other plant stressors, telling the plant that it needs to bulk up.
- Gentler music with a higher pitch that's more similar to bird song encourages stomata dilation, boosting nutrient intake so plants grow faster.
- Other research suggests boosts in sap flow and plant hormones

*Whilst the benefits may have been experienced by other growers, we cannot claim or guarantee that will be the case for every heirloom tomato plant

What to explore?
If you're super keen to take notes, what if you can include:
- When you are playing the music the the plants (duration, time of day)
- Repeat the track(s) over a period of time
- What plants are you playing the music for?
- What else will you include in your exploration?

Music is part of our life
This exploration is another reminder for me that we can be in communion with all things as all things are frequencies. A community not only includes us humans interacting with each other, but with the earth and all things in-between. Oh what symphony can we all co-create when we allow ourselves to connect, create and dance to the music of life?

We'd love to hear from you:
